At Campbello they offer Tea with Eleanor. Tea is served, an Orange Pekoe and gingersnaps made from Eleanor's favorite recipe. Everyone gets two cookies and they serve thousands over the course of the summer. During the tea, two people relate stories from Eleanor's life.
She enjoyed being at the cottage. She invited neighbors and townspeople to tea. She was Franklin's eyes and ears and traveled around the country talking to everyday people. She also had a daily newspaper column. She traveled the world and met with regular people as well as royalty. The picture above the fireplace shows Eleanor carrying her own bag from the plane when she returned from Russia meeting with Khrushchev in 1957.
She continued working in service of our nation, Truman asked her to be one of the representatives for the United Nations. She was instrumental in getting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights passed.
Eleanor worked to have Campobello made into a park for all to visit.
