Wow, there are an incredible number of innovative people in this world! We saw a variety of steam engines and steam powered industrial machines. Many of the President’s limousines were also on display. Kennedy’s limo was used by four other Presidents after him. They did replace the convertible with a secure hard top. Johnson also had it repainted from continental blue to black.
We first took a bus to the Rogue factory tour where the Ford F150’s are made. I’m always impressed watching an assembly line. Each truck is on a wooden platform that moves along, some workers are on the platform one was in a floating chair that allowed him to get into the truck bolt stuff in and swing back out. The chair was attached to a short conveyor that moved back and forth as needed.
We also saw a fantastic film about Detroit Hot Rods and the stories about cruising Woodward Avenue. It also showed a car show that was held at Ford’s Garage in Novi.
I asked and the museum owns the film so you won’t find it at your local cinema. Well worth seeing if you make the trip.
